Overview

Each summer, undergraduate students from across the U.S. travel to UMBC to participate in a ten-week research experience. As part of the program, students interested in receiving Ph.D.s and M.D./Ph.D.s in biomedicine get a jump start in their research by working with supportive and enthusiastic UMBC faculty, while participating in a GRE prep course, graduate-level workshops and seminars, participating in the annual Summer Research Festival and residing on-campus.

As a research university, UMBC offers undergraduates the opportunity to participate in the experimental and scholarly research conducted by our faculty. For many of participants, this is their first research experience since other universities typically reserve research opportunities for matriculating graduate students.

We invite you to learn more about a few of our former students and view class photos from prior years.
